Web Design Ipswich | My first attempt at a basic explainer video

Video is fast becoming the preferred choice when it comes to teaching, learning, marketing and advertising and for good reason - It gives you a rich experience which no other medium can.

I'm a visual person and so when it comes to learning how to do some task, video just stands head and shoulders above everything else. Because I can see and hear what's being taught I find it much simpler to comprehend, and when most of your work is done online, learning the intricacies of online marketing through helpful videos slashes my learning time.

Over the years I've made lots of videos, mostly 'how to's' which I use for clients as well as give away as proof I know what I'm doing. But these are not so good for a quick promotion, I wanted something fresher, quicker and more engaging to a larger number of people.

So I decided on a quick, in your face, here's what I do and here's what you'll get type of video I can use on my website as an introduction or as a marketing asset up on YouTube and other video sites.

Here it is, tell me what you think in the comments...

Felixstowe Plumbers first YouTube Video Ranks in Minutes

As part of our We Build It, We Rank It and You Rent it service, here's our newest addition, a YouTube video for our www.felixstoweplumbers.co.uk website.

The website is already on the first page for most local plumbing terms and hopefully over the next week or so, this video will join them.

You can see how quickly Google gets to work now from the screenshots below. They both show the video only takes minutes these days to rank in YouTube Search (6 minutes) and Google Video searches (9 minutes), but it's going to take a bit more of a push for the video to find it's way into a normal web search, which is where it will get the best response and provide good quality leads.

Video was found for the search term in YouTube searches in only 9 minutes

Luxury smoked seafood website from Lambton & Jackson goes live to the world

I started to get to know Darcy when we discussed building a new ecommerce website for him when he worked at Colchester Oyster Fishery. We've only met once but it left an indellible impression on me, not to mention a rather potent fishy smell on everything I wore.

He's an interesting man with an interesting story, having been brought up around food and foodies in Sardinia and then diving head first into journalism where he interviewed prominent luminaries including Henry Kissinger and The Dalai Lama.

I guess it's full circle now for Darcy and his smoking partner Sean, as they begin another journey by launching a new smoked seafood brand Lambton & Jackson.

Darcy originally just wanted a holding page saying they were coming soon, but after I saw the branding I knew I wanted to take things a step further and provide an initial presence that was worthy of the branding Darcy had.

Which brings me to the whole point of this post; to introduce you to Lambton & Jacksons' online home. A one page parallax website giving you a mouthwatering glimpse into the brand and the people behind it.

I'm proud to be associated with these guys and wish them all the best in the future, although having secured some of the finest restaurants in the land already, they seem to have already brought their future into the present.

(Darcy, after all this gushing I expect prompt payment of the remaining fee :) )

Don't Ever Stop Marketing. Here Are Nine Reasons To Help You Keep Your Nerve

9 local business marketing ideas
Have you ever started a marketing campaign and then got cold feet because early results weren't what you were expecting?

...You're not alone.

It happens to the the very best small businesses at some point; we think if we just pause it for a short while and think it over we can make it better. In my experience, this is never a good idea.

Remember, you've probably spent a great deal of time, effort and money working out your marketing plan, so starting again just costs you at least double.

Sure, if it's ill conceived in the first place and you haven't paid due diligence to your creative and media planning, then stop immediately, but if you have paid the price upfront, then here are nine things to help you keep on the straight and narrow.

  1. Without marketing you're non-existant - Unless you get the word out there, no one will know about your products and services.
  2. People have short memories - We're constantly bombarded with marketing messages everyday. Way back in 2005, the Guardian reported this number could have been 3,500 adverts everyday! So if you're not marketing and getting the word out, how long do you think it will take for people to forget you?
  3. Consistent marketing gives you an unfair advantage - It's been proven time and again in recession that businesses who keep their nerve and continue to market come out of the hard times much better positioned than more cautious competitors.
  4. Your market changes daily - New jobs, new people, new families and new lifestyles create a never-ending conveyor belt of new opportunities for local businesses, so quitting your marketing puts you out of the game completely.
  5. Keep customers coming back - Most local businesses rely on repeat and referral business. Stop contacting them and letting them know you're around can only mean you're going to be forgotten.
  6. People are looking for what you have - Everyday, people in your area are looking for what you have with their credit cards at the ready. If you're not in front of them when they're ready, you can be sure one of your competitors will be.
  7. Don't look like a failure - If you've been marketing and suddenly stop, what sign does this give your current and potential customers? Could they possibly see it as failure?
  8. Marketing strengthens your brand - being seen means you're in business, and over time this helps build your reputation. When you stop marketing you've just wasted months and years of hard work.
  9. Marketing pays the bills - Every business has overheads and consistent marketing means you can pay them. Stop marketing and it all dries up and you're out of business.
So there you have them, 9 solid reasons to keep up marketing your local business.
